FAQ
Questions, answered
Can I use this in a real interview?
No. Veil is strictly for mock interviews, rehearsal, and self-practice — not for real interviews, live assessments, or proctored exams. It helps you prepare so you can show up and perform as yourself.
How does it hear the interviewer?
During a practice call it captures your system audio (what your speakers play — your mock interviewer), with your microphone as a fallback for in-person practice. Hit Capture when they start talking, and again to stop.
Do I have to pay for the AI?
Coaching uses a Claude API key you provide. Transcription can be completely free — Veil runs open-source Whisper locally on your machine, no key or internet required. Hosted speech engines (OpenAI, Groq) also work if you prefer.
Is my data private?
Your background, answers, and practice stay under your account. The overlay is excluded from screen capture at the OS level, so your prep never leaks to a screen share — even during a shared practice call.
Which platforms are supported?
The desktop overlay runs on macOS 12+ and Windows 10 (build 2004+) for capture exclusion. The web dashboard works in any modern browser.
How does it know my background?
You add your resume highlights, target role, company, and best stories once. Veil grounds every suggested answer in that — so coaching sounds like you, and never invents credentials you don't have.
